Think outside the box

There are many ways to treat mouth pimples.  Most people have heard of the usual tips and tricks: wash your face daily, drink lots of water, don't touch your face.  These are all helpful and important tips and should not be overlooked, yet there is an often overlooked tip in the fight against acne: Vitamins.

Vitamins are tiny organic compounds that serve as micro-nutrients for your body.  Back in the 1900s, if you needed a specific vitamin to help your body, you would have to search far and wide for foods that contain them in large quantities.  Luckily, in the 21st century, these minerals are largely commoditized in pill for.  What this mean is, if you can find a good reason to take a supplement than it is as easy as going to your local chemist and purchasing whatever you want in whatever dose suits your situation.

 

Vitamin A

Also known as retinol, vitamin A is responsible for many different functions in the human body.  Most importantly, your body's skin health is directly related to the amount of this ineral in your body.  Scientists are still not entirely sure why it does what it does, but studies have shown that people newly diagnosed with mouth pimples have been found to be deficient in vitamin A.  This means that anyone in a serious effort to curb and prevent acne breakouts in and around your mouth area should do your best to get retinol into your system.

If you take a multi-vitamin, chances are you already get your daily recommended dosage of vitamin A.  If you want an extra boost, you can easily purchase a supplement specifically devoted to increasing these levels.  However, since mouth pimple prevention is all about doing all of the right things, we recommend eating foods naturally high in retinol.  This, after all, is the best source of it.

List of foods that contain retinol in high levels:

  • Liver
  • Carrots
  • Broccoli
  • Sweet Potato
  • Butter
  • Kale
  • Spinach
  • Pumpkin
  • Collard Greens
  • Cheddar Cheese
  • Cantaloupe Melon
  • Eggs
  • Apricot
  • Papaya
  • Mango
  • Peas
  • Broccoli
  • Milk

As you can see, nature provides quite well when it comes to vitamin A.  Try your best to add a few servings of your favorite food in the above list to your daily regiment.

 

Vitamin B2, B3 & B12

Hormonal imbalance is one of the most basic causes of acne.  Ever wonder why pimples form when you go through puberty?  Simple.  Your body (if you're a male, for example) begins to form testosterone in large quantities.  Your body's natural reaction to this is stress.  Stress causes pimples.  In fact, women who eat more meat than average have been shown to develop acne in higher quantities and much more frequently.

This is the basis for vitamin B as a supplement for mouth pimple treatment.  When your body undergoes stress, either physically or emotionally, you'll often breakout uncontrollably.  Vitamin B, in addition to stimulating the immune system, actually helps maintain stress levels within the body curbing differences in hormonal balance.  Again, the same applies.  If you take a multi-vitamin, chances are you already maintain recommended levels.  If you want, experiment and up your dosage.  Or, like always, we recommend finding your B in natural foods:

 

  • Fish
  • Shellfish
  • Poultry
  • Eggs
  • Dairy products

 

Vitamin E

We can't say anything specific in regards to the use of vitamin E in the prevention of mouth pimples.  However, similar to vitamin A, studies have shown that people newly diagnosed with acne have reduced levels of it.  From this, we can deduce that something positive is going on. 

Foods high in vitamin E content:

  • Asparagus
  • Avocado
  • Egg
  • Milk
  • Nuts like almonds or hazelnuts
  • Seeds
  • Spinach

Even if you don't have acne, vitamin E has been linked to many healthful benefits.
